Andrés Gómez-Peña obtained his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. He also holds a master’s degree in Journalism and Public Relations from American University in Washington, DC. During his master’s studies in Colombia he worked as a Teaching Assistant, which led him to his path as a Research Assistant once again at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and at Fedesarrollo, Colombia’s most prominent think tank.

While at Fedesarrollo, he coordinated two household surveys: the Social and Consumption Surveys. He was also Assistant Editor of Coyuntura social, Fedesarrollo’s academic journal. A couple of years later, Andrés joined the Research Department (RES) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, DC, first as a consultant and then as a staff member.

Since then, he has coordinated different research and publications projects, particularly among them, the IDB flagship publication Development in the Americas (DIA) and the Secretariat of the IDB’s Studies Committee, a group focused on improving the quality of analytical work throughout the bank.

Currently, he is the Communications Lead for the IDB’s Office of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness. He coordinates several publications and websites in this Office, among them are the Development Effectiveness Overview, the IDB’s Development Effectiveness Topic Page, and the Blog “Development That Works“.
